Get Some Moxie
The Virtual Health Club for People with Developmental Disabilities
Meeting
A first step in the right direction takes courage, even when you know it’s time for a change. There’s no question that guaranteed results and big payback make it easier to take the plunge. Moxie!

Moxie is a virtual health club for people with DD, their caregivers, and the budget-conscious agencies supporting them; we provide motivating tips, step-by-step guidelines and custom-designed tools to dramatically improve cooking, nutrition, socialization, exercise, and food costs. Weights, waist sizes and expenses decrease as meal quality, activity levels and well-being increase.

Our interventions—useful to members online or as hard copy when printed—are proven, custom designed, and backed by invested participants such as the USDA. We’ve been singled out for our “engaging, easy-to-use, and surefire” materials. Implementation by existing agency staff is effective, and a time saver, from day one. Since we’ve been dedicated to the health of people with DD for twenty years, and have walked in your shoes as employees, CEOs, and board members at social service organizations, we understand the challenges and how to pave the way for opportunities.

Moxie empowers people with DD to own their well-being, so they live happier, healthier, and longer without as many medications. In the process, the health of support staff gets a boost and the financials of provider organizations improve due to reduced food costs. We successfully accomplish these outcomes by focusing on prevention and areas that have long suffered from a lack of innovation and responsible action in many group home settings.

It takes Moxie to embrace change, to live life to its fullest. Get some, and take this surefire first step—it comes with a guarantee and big payback. Learn more about the program and pricing by scrolling down. Click here to order.

Spearheaded by our full-time chef, Mainstay’s recipe creation is custom-designed for people with developmental disabilities and the staff members who support this vital population. Our recipes are available in three choice-based formats: PhotoStep™, VideoStep™, and Aunt Betty’s. All three recipe types are explained in more details below. We’ve proven that you will learn how to cook, so your meals are flavorful and nutritious. We also demonstrate the seemingly impossible—good food will dramatically lower your food costs.

Chef Loiseau, a professionally trained and educated chef at one of the country’s most prestigious culinary schools, has been cooking alongside customers and staff in group homes for years and has been especially effective in accomplishing tremendous gains for people with limited skills, restrictive diets (diabetic, celiac sprue, etc.), and those adhering to stringent budgetary constraints.

If you’d like a particular recipe in PhotoStep™ or VideoStep™ format, get some Moxie and ask—we’ll deliver!

Snapshots—PhotoStep™ Recipes
We have hundreds of PhotoStep recipes from the very basic to the more involved. Each PhotoStep recipe is provided in two formats, both stemming from a task analysis basis:

1. Short, consistent verbal prompts accompanying still photos that display every step of the recipe in full color progression.
2. Expanded text for staff interested in back-up explanation and guidance.

These recipes are available online, at any time, through our web-based system, and can be printed out in hard copy from any printer for easy, hands-on utilization. PhotoStep recipes take the guesswork out of A-to-Z preparation, whether peeling a potato, microwaving a hotdog, tossing a Caesar salad, or whipping up pasta primavera. Action!—VideoStep™ Recipes
Through short, instructive videos we engage staff and customers in the cooking process, so meal preparation becomes captivating and pleasurable. Along the way, important skills are emphasized and learned. A sample can be viewed online by clicking

Customer Favorites—Aunt Betty’s Recipes
These recipes are written like the ones we’re all used to seeing tucked away in the cupboards of America’s kitchens and in cookbooks on the shelves of stores—except that these are the most mouthwatering, low-cost, and nutritious meals you’ll ever find. We’ve carefully selected these recipes throughout the years based on input from customers, family members, staff, and everyone’s Aunt Betty. Our chef has also had a hand in stirring up a number of these tasty offerings, and many people with DD are fully capable of preparing these recipes on their own.

Daily access to hundreds of recipes organized according to high-nutrition/low cost alternatives, basic to more complex options, and restrictive diet type (diabetic, celiac sprue, etc.).
And—new, nutritious and low-cost recipes provided monthly.

SocializationSocialization
Bottom line: quality of life skyrockets and social capital catapults.

Improved health fosters self-confidence and a new sense of adventure. We provide step-by-step guidelines for people with DD to promote increased interaction with family, friends and the community. Our tried-and-true tips cover everything from the neighbor next door to helping those in need around town—throwing a block party, hosting a cookie exchange, organizing a tailgate, volunteering at a local food bank, pitching in at a blood drive, etc. View a sample by clicking here.

We also provide complete guidelines on how to celebrate events that the mainstream population typically enjoys throughout the year—Super Bowl, Mardi Gras, Kentucky Derby, Cinco de Mayo, etc. We make sure you know how to orchestrate these memory makers and moments of joy; included are recipes, sensory experiences, and community integration suggestions.
Provided quarterly.

ExerciseExercise
Bottom line: proof positive that sweat can be habit forming right in your own living room.

Our regimen includes activity appropriate for people with developmental disabilities who want to add exercise to their life, on their terms. We provide tips on how to engage, motivate and sustain workouts so “toned” and “limber” become part of daily vocabulary for one and all.
